Saturday at Pittsburgh Thrift Stores: Pink Champagne, Toy Soldier, and Paris

I think that everyone loves the thrill of the hunt or of finding something unique.  I love thrifting to find vintage clothes, fashion coffee table books, home accessories, and furniture.

My brother Luke and I went to some of our favorite Pittsburgh thrift stores and antique malls yesterday.

It was shockingly warm for January.  I wore a comfortable but pulled together jeans and t-shirt outfit.

Jeggings: American Eagle; T-shirt: Topshop UK; Vest: Vintage fur coat tailored to become a vest; Belt and Ballet Flats: J Crew; Necklace: From Washington DC Flea Market; Watch and Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I wasn't in the mood to look through racks of clothes, so I concentrated on looking for home accents.  I found this bar advertising light from the 1970's.  It had a pink bulb inside, but I had to replace it with a regular lightbulb.
It makes for a great nightlight by my rolling bar cart.
I also bought this little British soldier for the bar.
My best find was probably this art piece.  It doesn't photograph very well, but it is a mirrored and chrome image of Paris, probably from the late 1970's.

I hung it by my couch and think that it works with the rest of my black/white/mirrored accents.
I think these totally unnecessary but truly glamorous items are what make a house or apartment special.

British Glamour at the Victoria and Albert Museum

While in London, I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum which is the most amazing fashion wonderland.  The clothing in these pictures speak for themselves.

A Window into the Doors of Bath

"A very little key will open a very heavy door."  Charles Dickens.  These doors are all in Bath in close to my Dad's flat.  They are typical of Georgian architecture.  I love each one.

Corgies, Champagne, Doors, and Dior

Official trip mascot

I just got back from a wonderful 2 weeks in England.  The problem with wanderlust is that I already can't wait to be back.  I took a lot of photos of the everyday (ex. shelves in a drug store) and the  extraordinary (an abandoned manor house in the Cotswolds).

Champagne at Paddington Station.  Glass passes the time waiting to meet someone.

Dior at the Victoria and Albert Museum

Bag ready for train back to Bath in a souvenir from Selfridges & Co.

Found this abandoned manor house in the countryside

I had the best time with good food, family, friends, and fashion.  I count myself lucky to have such a glamorous group on both sides of the pond!

Building a Travel Wardrobe

I am packing tonight and I am planning to bring a lot of accessories that don't take up much bulk or weight, but that add a lot to an outfit.

Necklaces, belts, and bracelets should add some interest and texture.

I am taking several blazers, some solid (tomato red, black) and some textured/patterned (leopard print, cream and grey tweed).  The top piece is a fur vest which can be layered and goes with almost everything.

Basics in neutral colors round out my clothes options.

Ballets in a nude and perfect suede will give my feet a break from boots.

One clutch for night and two scarves round out the add-ons.

Packing reminds me that I should donate things that I don't love.  The best should be for everyday glamour, not just when traveling!
