North Park Lake: Sandals and Sweater

Silk scarf (as headband) and purse: Louis Vuitton; Sunglasses: RayBans; Barn Jacket: Burberry; Sweater and Sandals: J Crew; Jeans: American Eagle
It was so beautiful this weekend. Perfect fall weather.  My Mom always said never to wear sandals with a sweater (let alone a jacket!) but I couldn't resist.
I loved the combination of orange and blue, which echoed the fallen leaves and the lake.

Leopard Skirt and D'Orsay Pumps

Blazer, necklace, and t-shirt: J Crew; Skirt: Forever 21; Pumps: Zara
Not much to say about this outfit apart from it combines some of my favorite things: leopard print, witch looking heels, white t-shirts, and blazers.
Rings and sunglasses: Vintage; Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs
I just wore these shoes to a wedding and I am in love.  D'Orsay heels are very classic and are back on trend this fall.  This style of shoe is cut-away on the side of the foot to reveal the arch.  Another example of Zara's shoes as an affordable fashion option.

Thrift Tip: Jean Jacket into Vest

Jean vests are very on trend this fall.  But, don't spend a lot of money on one.  Jean jackets are a thrift store staple....whether vintage or new.  Look for a jacket with a nice wash and that fits your shoulders well.  I found this light wash J Crew jacket for $9.95.

Simply cut a hold in the middle of the sleeve to start cutting along the shoulder seam.  This couldn't be any easier because you are following the established seam line.  Make sure to use scissors for the most precise cut.
The vest can be worn with almost any outfit you already have and adds a non-chalant factor.

NYS Fair: Nature as Inspiration

Sunglasses: Oakleys; Dress: Forever 21; Vest: Vintage J Crew customized into vest; Scarf: Liberty of London; Sandals: Topshop; Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs; Purse: Louis Vuitton
New York State Fair on Labor Day Weekend called for a super comfortable outfit.  I kept cool with a thin cotton maxi-dress and sandals and added a vest as a layering pieces.  Excited to try a look like this with tights and boots soon.

Check out these chickens! They look like extras in a Vogue editorial.  Nature is a constant theme for designers and these animals show why.

Glastonbury-Style at Mumford and Sons

Necklace (as headband): Stella and Dot; Vest and dress: Forever 21; Bangles: Kate Spade NY and assorted; Boots: Minnetonka;
The best part of fashion is dressing in a way you wouldn't day-to-day.  I love festival style and the recent Mumford and Sons concert was a great time to wear a fun Glastonbury-inspired outfit.
These boots scare a lot of people, I call them my Pocahontas boots.  Confession: I wore these A LOT in law school...don't worry they were in then...I think!
Yellow and Blue Bangles: Kate Spade; others-assorted
Best part about dressing for an outdoor concert: you can throw on any jewelry you have.

Every good concert outfit involves a headpiece.  This one is a Stella and Dot necklace tied behind my head with rubber-bands.
Tip: Never forget your ultimate accessory, a giant can of PBR!

Field of Dreams: DVF Sunflower Dress

I found this vintage Diane Von Furstenberg dress at the Junior League of Elmira's consignment shop.  It probably dates from the mid-1970's.  The print is a bit "much" but since the 1990's are back in style I couldn't pass it up.   Will try and tone it down with boots, a loose sweater, and boots in the fall.
Dress: Vintage Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF); Sunglasses: Oakleys; Sandals: Urban Outfitters; Purse: Louis Vuiton
Thrift Tip: Find stores that are run by local charitable organizations.  Stores like this require their members to make donations.

Shades of Blue and Yellow

Headband: J Crew; Earrings: Robert Lee Morris; Chambray Shirt: Cloth and Stone; Jeggings: American Eagle; Sandals: Outfitters; Clutch: Vintage
One of the best things about Pittsburgh are the contrasting elements: ex. old and new, urban v. rural etc.  The city's bridges are some of the most beautiful places in the city.  A simple weekend outfit in contrasting shades of blue felt perfect for the end of summer.

I found this clutch during a recent thrift trip.  I loved that the shape of the bag was very "evening" but the muted carpetbag tones with subtle beading made it a great day clutch.  Tag says: handmade in Hong Kong.

As much as I look forward to knit hats, boots, and scarves, I will miss summer days like this one.
